These are the most prominent Women's Champions of ten major wrestling promotions!

It's taken a long time for women's wrestling to rise to prominence, but today, it's doing pretty well. That wasn't always the case, as even the major companies that had a women's division didn't give it too much attention. That's changed today with several promotions focused on women's wrestling. There have also been international promotions that always made it a big deal, they just didn't get as much attention in the United States.

With some promotions, it's tricky figuring out who their best champion could have been, thanks to the long list of amazing women who held the title. With other spots, it's a bit thinner, so only a couple of names pop up. These are the most prominent women's champions of ten major promotions to show the history of the title has helped shape the world of women's wrestling today.

Established in the mid-2000s, Shimmer has become notable as a groundbreaking promotion for women's wrestling and the stepping stone for many women in the business. It's had some notable champions, yet Cheerleader Melissa has to rank as the best.

Despite her name, she was a tough-as-nails fighter, including steel cage and other hard bouts. She combined for over 700 days as champion and helped get the company started. While her later run in TNA was a mess, Melissa did make herself one of the best female workers around in a tough time.

She had a long reign as Impact Champion and even a stint with WWE, but Taya Valkyrie is best known for her amazing work in AAA. She holds the record for both the number of reigns (currently on her fourth) and the longest time with one (945 days).

Known for her power alongside a lot of fun flash, Valkyrie lives up to her name as a warrior who takes on all comers and dominates easily. With a total of over 1660 days (and counting) in her various title reigns, this Valkyrie is AAA's most dominant wrestler in its history.

CMLL is another company with a wide range of great champions, including Marcela. But Guadalupe Ramona Olvera, aka La Amapolo, still holds the record for the longest reign in company history and one of the longest ever. She won the CMLL title in 2007 and held it for a whopping 1442 days.

Over the years, she's lost her mask and hair in battles but kept going and had some fantastic matches against various rivals. La Amapolo managed to make CMLL respected as a Women's champion and little wonder many regard her as one of the best ladies to step into a Mexican ring.

One can make a case the Fabulous Moolah was a top NWA Women's champion, but then that was folded to become the WWE Women's title. Instead, Mildred Burke deserves attention as the woman who put women's wrestling on the map. Not just beautiful, Burke was amazingly skilled in the ring and could have given today's top stars a run for the money.

Put together, her title reigns lasted almost twenty years, a sensational run of bouts that could become serious shoot matches. While some bad politics pushed her out of the business, Burke set the bar every woman's wrestler has followed and made a Women's championship mean something.

All-Japan has seen a few women's titles over its run and that's not helped mixed with IWGP's. Yet it's easy to see Bull Nakano as the best titleholder in their history. Famous for both her stocky build and that massive hairdo, Nakano's sole title reign lasted a record 917 days.

That included taking on scores of top stars of the time and easily defeating them. Nakano also had reigns as CMLL and even WWE Women's champion, yet her time in Japan is what made her a legend of the business. No matter how All Japan's belt was labeled, Bull was the best at defending it in the ring.

AEW may be a new kid on the block in the wrestling world, but there's no denying Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. is the best woman to hold their belt so far. Already a skilled worker, Baker took off as a heel with her hilarious lines and soon on the rise. Her reign as champion was spectacular, a case of a heel getting big pops and delivering in bigger matches.

From regular bouts to full-on wars in bloody no-DQ battles, Baker was able to come out on top. While she lost the title to Thunder Rosa, Baker is in the hunt and the idea of her becoming AEW's first two-time women's champion doesn't seem too crazy.

This is pretty much a no-brainer. TNA Impact may have had longer title reigns by women and bigger ones, but without Gail Kim, the Knockout Division would never have gotten going. Gim held the belt more times (seven) than anyone else and established TNA as the better women's division of the time.

She also worked in reigns as Knockouts tag team champion to keep up her legacy. A legit Hall of Famer, Kim still stands as TNA's best female champion and her legacy stands as establishing the belt as a big deal in wrestling.

Before its fall, the AWA had a good women's division going and Sherri Martel was a strong champion. However, Madusa Miceli was so much better. A fantastic powerhouse, Medusa mixed strength with terrific skill to be a powerful AWA champion.

Her fame was so great she was the first woman voted Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Rookie of the Year. Miceli later became known as Alundra Blayze in WWE but this early work made her the best to hold the strap in the AWA.

It's amazing that probably the best woman on the WCW roster never got a run as their champion. Instead, poor Madusa Miceli was reduced to the Cruiserweight title. Akira Hokuto defeated Medusa in a tournament for the inaugural title in 1996. Sadly, Hoktuo never got top-flight competition as WCW wasn't that interested in a women's division then.

Her reign was 168 days before she returned to Japan and the belt went to Devil Masami before it was deactivated. Thus, Hokuto counts as the "best" WCW Women's champion mostly as there's so little competition.

This may be a controversial pick due to her constant pushes, but there's a reason WWE always has Charlotte in a top spot. The woman has been a marvel, holding just about every title one can in the company, including the old Divas belt.

She's also delivered in some fantastic matches, several true classics, including the first time women main-evented WrestleMania. Charlotte can get a crowd going, as even her detractors have to admit her wrestling skills are among the best of any woman on the roster. It's why she has so many title reigns and living up to her dad's legacy as a true legend of her time.
